PRECEPTS

We are committed to fostering a respectful and inclusive dialog among all people, regardless of their beliefs in climate change, or in any other aspect of life. These precepts spell out the values we hold important in all interactions, communication, and any other action among all who engage with our website, and who engage in the climate discussion, at all.

THE SCIENCE, PERSPECTIVES, AND OUR CONDUCT

Some parts of the climate issue is supported by facts and science; other parts are still being studied and explored, so that scientists and experts will be able to find more information, develop theories, and establish laws, based on the underlying information. The climate change phenomenon is also in constant change as human activities and our environment change. For these reasons, we have specific answers to some questions, and no specific answers to others. This also means that—while diverse perspectives and healthy debates are welcome—we all need to remember that the climate issue will be improved, and hopefully solved, only through civilized interactions and cooperation … and importantly, for the benefit of all of us.
Engaging in healthy debates, and providing ideas (even if they may seem controversial) enriches the human efforts, and can inform decision making in important steps toward a healthy Earth and a secure future. Even as the climate issue has already become political in some circles, committing to handling discussions and disagreements in a civilized manner can eventually de‑politicize it, and turn it into a cause that serves all people.
THEREFORE, EACH PERSON OUGHT TO OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING:
• We do not attack others (verbally or physically) to express disagreement; or for any other reason
• We do not engage in smearing any individual’s reputation or dignity, whether in‑person or in the social media world
• When aiming to express disagrement, questionable behavior, or any other discord, start with the person with whom you disagree—instead of badmouting that person to others
• Aggressive, abusive, or threatening behavior would only provide distress for both the aggressor and the target—so, let’s avoid it

THE POSSIBILITIES

Life‑changing discoveries, solutions to grand problems, inventions, and defining times in the history of the world didn’t—and won’t—happen without conflict, dissent, or friction. But, now in the 21stcentury, we ought to be intelligent and decent enough to minimize harm, hasten progress, and sooner rather than later arrive at general agreement and specific actions to make our Earth liveable and healthy for the future.

While we believe that climate change is real, the related information is not an exact science in every instance. Therefore, some data or statistics might differ in different sources, even as they point to the same phenomenon of a changing climate. While we make sufficient effort to collect valid information, GlobeMentum is not responsible for the precision (or lack thereof) of data or information published on this site.
